Tohi is a female-founded wellness brand with a line of Aronia-based drinks. Aronia, if you didn't already know, is a little-known but powerfully anti-oxidant member of the rose family. Its dark fruit is harvested once a year in the summer. (Tohi gets their berries from the Midwest.) Combining water with Aronia berries, the Tohi drinks provide 70 percent hydration and 30 percent nutrition. Currently, there are four flavors of Tohi drinks but more Aronia-based products are in the works.
Christina Appleton grew up in her family's market in Michigan and when it came time for her to release her own brand of power veggie bites, she realized the family market name was best. "I wanted to have a brand that quickly conveyed how much I cared about my products and the ingredients, and how much I care about everyone who will eat them," she says. Today, Appleton's Market is based in Southern California, using cage-free eggs along with grain-free, Paleo and keto-friendly ingredients to create the Power Veggie Bites Collection which are available directly through the website.
Deciding that nut butters didn't always have to of the sweet variety, Jessica and Jon embarked on a quest to create savory nut butters. After "countless batches and plenty of feedback" the duo launched three signature flavors of Humblenut Butter in Minneapolis—Tumeric Maple Pecan, Sundried Basil Cashew, and Truffle Herb Walnut. All spices and herbs are certified Organic, the cashews are certified Fair Trade and Organic and no palm oil, preservatives, stabilizers or any other unfamiliar ingredients are used.
Sounds impossible but Core and Rind Cheesy sauces are creamy and dairy-free made with cashew and other real, plant-based ingredients. These sauces are the brainchildren of Candi and Rita who first began selling the cheesy, cheese-free goodness at a local farmers market in St. Louis before creating a shelf-stable product with three flavor profiles. Aside from being available in select stores throughout the U.S., Core and Rind is also available online, meaning anyone can make mac and cheese, gooey nachos, or pizza in their own home.
One of Denver’s emerging food and beverage makers is Patterbar, a clean energy bar that’s the brainchild of Patter Gersuk. As a classically trained chef (who also happens to have a master’s degree in Public Administration), Patter set out to make a snack for her children with ingredients she could trust. But over the years, her quest for good food that’s good for you coupled with great feedback from her family, led Patter to develop Patterbar. Today, each bar is handcrafted, made in small batches with carefully selected ingredients and packaged by the small and mighty team in Denver. The bars come in three flavors and are available online.
